Caricature

WALT: To create a self portrait Caricature

We had to draw ourselves from a photo we took of ourselves on our chromes.  Then we had to sketch and went over the pencil with vivid to make the lines thicker.  You had to rub out any pencil lines.  After that we had to dye it with dye & water.

Tiny Houses

WALT:  Tell whether, or not, we would like to live in a tiny house one day.

I would not like to live in a Tiny house because they are too small and I would just want to live in a normal sized house 4 bedroom house.

It would be too cramped, for instance you wouldn't be able to stretch if your bed was on a loft and you had to crouch to get onto your bed.

Te reo Maori

WALT: Learning to pronounce Maori vowel sounds and Maori words correctly.

I have been learning to say my mihi off by heart and I can do it without using the hand actions we were taught. I sometimes sing waiata with the class and I have learned new songs. My next steps would be to practice my pepeha.

Mexico's Natural Wonder: Paricutin Volcano

WALT: Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge)

For this task, I have read an article from Readworks and I have written what I have learned.

I learned that the Paricutin Volcano in Mexico earned its title as one of the seven natural wonders of the world in an explosive way. In 1943, this volcano emerged from a cornfield in a village about 200 miles (321 kms) west of Mexico City.
I also learned that people living in the area had been feeling the ground shake and hearing it rumble for weeks. Then one day, the earth in the cornfield rose up about six feet! Ash and vapor exploded from the ground. By later that day, a small cone shape had formed. The volcano had begun erupting, sending lava and pieces of molten rock into the air. As these rock pieces landed around the new volcano, the cone shape grew bigger and bigger.

Bird Poem

birds in the trees
loving the breeze
fluffing their feathers
in the beautiful weather
while the hawk spies at them
sitting on their nest
having a rest
protecting their chicks
so nothing eats them
off they fly
to get some kai
they have to be quick
to get back to their chicks
drop in a worm
so their little ones eat
mother bird spreads her wings
she cover her babies
snug safe and sound

Lockdown

There’s a pandemic spreading around the world
People dying, crying, praying
In a craze
In a daze
Staying at home for all the days
Please people don’t eat bats again
Because the world will never be the same
We can’t go out and do what we normally do
Got away from school
Working from home for me and you
Surrounded by our family
Not as cool
As being at school
Google Hang Outs
But we’ll be back to normal without a doubt
So keep staying home and saving lives
So we’ll all win the PRIZE!!!

My Birthday

A little girl was born on April the 20th 2010 and that little girl is me!
My birthday is today April 20th 2020.
I am turning ten today.
Unfortunately I can’t have a birthday party because we are in LOCKDOWN.
So no friends or family can come over.
I can’t go out to lunch, dinner or even a fun park.
I don’t even have a birthday present because my mum couldn’t go shopping.
She let me buy some new shoes online but they can’t come until after the lockdown.
But what I do have is my family.
My mum is making a cake, and we’re having burgers, fries and homemade kimchi for my birthday dinner.
It will be like takeaways because my mum & my sister are so good at cooking.
